What it says on the tin.

Why did the Son of God suffer and die so horribly? Because He paid for our sins. He never sinned. We all have sinned. It was for our sins that Jesus died. Receive Him as Lord and Savior. Turn away from sin. Follow Him, as He leads you and know God's peace and forgiveness- that one can only know through faith in Christ, and what He accomplished for us. God Bless

Andy, Clerk of Generosity,

We should start turning away from sin as believers but we have to keep choosing it. We still have free will. We can pray for spiritual growth too.

Kadnyce, Author of Wild Parties,

Ok define repentance for me...I found a verse in the Old Testament that if you refrain from committing a sin, then you have done a good work. Good works are much more than merely doing works of charity for those in need, it is doing ANYHTING that is good, or refraining from sinning. Turning from sin counts as a good work too then. Repentance regarding salvation is RECOGNIZING you have sin and can't save yourself, and that you need Christ. The Greek word for repentance means to change your mind. In regards to salvation repentance can also regard changing from unbelief to belief. If you say someone has to actually physically stop any sin in order to be saved, or at least even "slow down" on a sin, then you are adding good works to faith. Note that when John the Baptist talks about fruits of repentance, then good works are FRUITS of repentance, meaning that repentance precedes good works which includes turning away form sins. WHEN one is saved one might at that time make a decision to start turning away from sin, but that is not the CAUSE of their salvation. The CAUSE of their salvation is faith in Christ FOR eternal life. It might be natural to start making decisions to turn away from sins, but again, this is not WHY God saves someone when they start to have faith, it is the faith in Christ itself that causes the salvation and spiritual regeneration.

Max, Sheriff of Justice,

It is the work of God in us from start to finish.

Bowie, Manager of Imagination,

In Greek the word repent means to change your mind. God draws people to Christ, then people can choose to repent or not after that. Predestination is in the bible but does NOT mean God chooses to force some to believe and leave others unsaved on purpose. When the bible says God chooses people, I believe the context indicates that merely means God chooses the conditions people need to meet to be saved, rather than arbitrarily saving some and leaving others damned because He pre-chooses not to save some.

One passage on predestination MEANS God predestinates ALL believers to be conformed to the image of Christ, imperfectly in this current age, but completed in the next age.

Rook, Developer of the Homeless,

IF WE TURN away FROM SIN to get saved, then JESUS DID NOT PAY IT ALL. DID JESUS PAY IT ALL OR NOT. GIVE ME A STRAIGHT ANSWER OR SHUT YOUR MOUTH.

Brett, Shaman of Light,

Of course salvation is based on the finished work of Christ. There is NOTHING we can do to add to His work. We cannot work for salvation. He paid it all! Jesus Christ who is our Lord and Savior.

Bowie, Manager of Imagination,

Then why do you seem to tie TURNING from sins to getting saved? TURNING from sins means, even gradually with spiritual growth, stopping sinning and replacing that with good works. RECOGNIZING sin is a mental act that leads to one realizing one NEEDS salvation.

Brett, Shaman of Light,

Jesus said repent and be saved, Peter said the same thing, Paul also. I will stick with the Word of God rather than opinions of men. "So, King Agrippa, I did not prove disobedient to the heavenly vision, but kept declaring both to those of Damascus first, and also at Jerusalem, and then throughout all the region of Judea, and even to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, performing deeds appropriate to repentance." Paul Acts 26:19-20

Rook, Developer of the Homeless,

LORDSHIP SALVATION IS A HERESY. PERIOD. IF JESUS PAID IT ALL, THEN HOW CAN YOU SAY WE NEED TO TURN FROM OUR SINS TO BE SAVED. PAUL SAID THAT IF WE ARE SAVED BY DOING THE LAW THEN CHRIST DIED IN VAIN.

Brett, Shaman of Light,

To say that Jesus is not Lord is heresy.

Bowie, Manager of Imagination,

Jesus is Lord whether we admit it or not. Lordship salvation IS a heresy. It is MUCH more than telling people they should declare that Jesus is Lord. It says that you are partially saved by making a ONE TIME decision to turn from your sins. It is like salvation by faith plus works mixed with often a belief in eternal security, or once saved, always saved (which I agree with). Lordshippers SAY your are saved by grace through faith alone, but kinda sorta add good works through the back door. I don't fully understand their theology, so I am having a hard time even articulating it. Probably because it is a heresy anyway.

Brett, Shaman of Light,

You are the one saying repentance is works, the Bible says no such thing.

Brett, Shaman of Light,

Salvation is indeed by grace through faith in Christ and His finished work. Believers are indeed to repent as we follow the Lord and are transformed by His Spirit. "If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me"...Jesus Luke 9:23

Kadnyce, Author of Wild Parties,

Do you believe in eternal security?

Max, Sheriff of Justice,

The parable of the sower teaches us about the different responses people have to the presentation of the gospel, some fall away not being sown on good soil. The seed that falls on good soil is that which endures. This brings to another discussion-election and predestination which is taught throughout the scriptures.

Samantha, Superintendent of Justice,

So we repent of sins in spiritual growth instead of so that we may go to heaven

Bowie, Manager of Imagination,

It IS BIBLICAL to turn away from sins, but NOT so that you can be forgiven and go to heaven. THAT part is by FAITH in Christ ALONE.

Bowie, Manager of Imagination,

In the bible, when it talks about repentance in connection with receiving eternal life, it is talking about, by context, repentance from the sin of unbelief. It also talks about in other passages, RECOGNIZING you have sin. Some passages of the bible seem, and are intended, to make anyone despair of attempting to or thinking they can earn heaven. Passages say that if you break ONE the Law of God at ONE point, God counts it as you breaking them ALL, if you DESIRE to murder someone, God counts it as if you had actually did it. God wants people to despair of trying to earn heaven so that they run to trust Jesus to save them instead.

As soon as anyone commits ONE sin ONCE in their life with the knowledge that they are doing something wrong, they are immediately and forever disqualified from being able to earn their way into heaven. After that the only recourse to be saved is by faith in Jesus Christ.

Rook, Developer of the Homeless,

I look at naked women sometimes online and feel no guilt and no conviction to repent. I do feel conviction to control and regulate so that I may do the things I am supposed to do, and also so that I put God first, also I feel conviction to avoid any material that depicts things that the bible DOES list as a sexual sin, otherwise, nope, I feel no conviction to not look at nude women online.

Brett, Shaman of Light,

You are clearly deceived and trying to deceive others. you are a false teacher.

Bowie, Manager of Imagination,

Unless you convince me from scripture I am wrong, I will not consider myself a false teacher.

Rook, Devourer of Imagination,

I teach the bible and save my repentance for real sins

Rook, Developer of the Homeless,

Really Christians need to stop contradicting themselves. Stop saying that salvation is by faith in Christ ALONE, and then a minute later, but but you also need to turn from your sins blah blah blah blah. We DO need to turn from your sins, but NOT TO RECEIVE FORGIVENESS OF SINS AND ETERNAL LIFE. Start reading the bible IN CONTEXT AND DEFINE WORDS IN CONTEXT and GET IT THROUGH YOUR THICK SKULLS and STOP CONFUSING the heck out of people that you talk to about the Lord.

Brett, Shaman of Light,

Its best to stick with God's Word. "The one who practices righteousness is righteous. The one who practices sin is of the devil."...1 John 3:7-8 "You will know them by their fruits. Every good tree bears good fruit. But the bad tree bears bad fruit."...Jesus Mathew 7:16-17

Rook, Developer of the Homeless,

How then do you explain believers need to overcome some sins yet? Are believers sinless, or is your interpretation of these verses wrong? Remember the bible is to be interpreted contextually, and consider the original Greek and Hebrew as well.

Brett, Shaman of Light,

Salvation is indeed through faith in Christ alone, but repentance that accompanies salvation is taught throughout the scriptures. To ignore repentance is not biblical.

Peyton, Cleric of the Rich,

Then isn't that kind of repentance adding works to faith to get saved? Turning from sin means works. How do you reconcile that with faith in Christ for salvation.

Rook, Developer of the Homeless,

When the bible talks about repentance in terms of GETTING saved, by CONTEXT it is talking about repentance from unbelief. Sometimes in Acts it talks about people CONFESSING their sins when they got saved, which in Greek is the same as recognizing your sin. It is not biblical to IGNORE repentance, but repentance in the sense of turning away from your sin is a good work, so if salvation is by faith in Christ ALONE, then turning from your sin is NOT part of getting saved. Turning from sin is part of a long process of spiritual growth, which is empowered by the Holy Spirit in a believer but does not GET you saved.

Brett, Shaman of Light,

We are saved by grace through faith. And Jesus clearly taught repentance-"Whoever wishes to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it"....Jesus Mathew 16:25

Bowie, Manager of Imagination,

You are teaching a Lordship Salvation gospel. That is not biblical.

Dakota, Clerk of the Financial Services department,

Please say more about this. I am intrigued.

Bowie, Manager of Imagination,

Salvation is by faith IN Jesus FOR salvation or the forgiveness of sins. Then we repent or turn away from sins for spiritual growth, for blessings of living an upright life, and for greater rewards in heaven. Lordship salvationists confuse how we into heaven with how we get other blessings and rewards. Getting into heaven is a gift, other blessings and rewards ARE a result of good works.

Rook, Developer of the Homeless,

Actually turning away from sin is NOT part of getting justified. RECOGNIZING that you have sin IS. THEN having faith in Christ for eternal life or TRUSTING Jesus for salvation is what leads to God's forgiveness of all sin. Turning from sin and following Jesus does NOT lead to justification, the forgiveness of sins in the eternal sense. THAT part leads to greater rewards in heaven and blessings in this life. Receiving of eternal life and forgiveness of sins is by faith in Christ ALONE.

Max, Sheriff of Justice,

Jesus paid it all. We are justified by the work of Christ alone, by grace through faith. Jesus told us that we must consider the cost if we are going to come to Him for salvation, and follow Him. We do not play games with God and ignore repentance. I really wonder why some in here have a problem with repentance. Why is that?
