The trouble with Montgomery, Alabama is that it is too frustratingly unprogressive. Not only does its school system leave much to be desired, but it s public transportation system needs to improve, and won't.This city's reponse to the famous 1955 Bus Boycott was to ultimately do away with its public transportation system, which puts those unable to drive due to vision problems, such as myself, or inability to afford a car, et. al, at a disadvantage. I have to rely on aging parents, or another family member to take me any place by car, and I've met others with similar problems. Theoretically, the Capitol city of a state that considers the deaf and blind Helen Keller to be its heroine should do better than this, but it isn't. I'd still say racial politics have much to do with that. Some in power still play games of "keep away"where non-whites are concerened, although whites suffer because of this nonsense as well.
Also, to coddle local businessmen, it has done away with its recycling program . This town may have the 5th largest Shakespeare Festival, and a Hyndai plant. But for every step taken forward, it takes five staeps back. If the Feds plan to take over the state where certain areas are concerned, that can't happen soon enough for me.
