Received email as friendly reminder that a report is due - ahead of schedule but nevertheless due. If there were 30 hours in a day and I worked only 15 of them, it still wouldn't be enough time. If there was that extra time they'd fill it up with other tasks because, well, you have more time don't ya!?
Guess I better stop relaxing on my day off and get to work. Damn laptops and cellphones - makes it easier for employers to stay connected and demand more work of their employees.

Same here; my office has a culture of stay-lateism, and I have a company phone and laptop so I can 'support' even when I'm supposedly not working.
I was reading Bill Bryson's "The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid" and was suprised to learn that back in the 1950s, by and large, the average American office worker, management included, worked a strict 9-5. At 5:10 everyone was rushing home for dinner with the family.
You'd think with all the "office automation" that occurred since them, we'd be able to finish work at 3 in the afternoon. But in practice, we're all working longer hours, and even our free time is no longer our own.
