I work my ass off as a temporary worker in an industry that I went to school to be in. I'm recognized for my excellent work but never rewarded. I put off paying for school long enough. It is time I acted responsibile and acutally paid this debt unlike the other random bills I never paid.
So I get a second job because the promotion I was told was coming my way never did.
Two days after I get the second job, my boss calls and says they want to put me in a new department for a while. It's looking like I'll still be a temp but he promises tons of overtime.
My problem: I can't work overtime and a second job. If I say no to the opportunity I might not be considered for the promotion when it finally does come around.
I'm waiting for my hours at the second job and I'm waiting for more details on the department change before I make my decision. The only problem is I'm not supposed to tell anyone and the stress of waiting and not being able to do anything at the moment is killing me.
I just want to be successful! I'll work all the hours they need me to. I'll learn whatever they throw at me. Why is there such a wait?!

I hope everything worked out for the better. If you're still in this situation, it sounds like your boss is taking advantage of you. I would move to the other department at your current job and deal with the overtime issue if it arises. It's not likely that there would be overtime.
Remember it's not about the money but the upward mobility. My sister took a $6/hr cut in pay to move to a job that was a demotion. She now is #3 from the top & earning 4x her original pay while her co-workers from her other job are still in the same spot earning the same pay.
