To: Chairman, Board of Trustees, Muslim Unity center (MUC).
Bloomfield Hills, Michigan
"In the name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful"
Whereas, MUC is no longer inclusive, diverse or welcoming; judging and grading other Muslims have become standard behavior. Clan, ethnicity, status, and bank accounts are the new measures of worth.
Whereas, MUC is no longer universal; sectarian behavior, judgmental attitudes, and gender inequality are thriving. Women who do not cover their hair have become the favorite target of the obsessed zealots.
Whereas, MUC no longer collaborates with other organizations to serve humanity; relevance to the lives of our community is diminishing.
Whereas, MUC no longer respects the family; forced gender segregation in social functions is the norm. The Unity center is turning into a Salafi-Wahhabi mosque that caters to the extremist sector within the Muslim Community. The extremists have taken full control of the MUC and have hijacked our Islam.
Be it resolved that the MUC is no longer an Islamic center. It has become a Masjid al-Dhirar. Muslims should distance themselves from the political, tribal, and sectarian behavior of the center.
Be it further resolved that supporting the MUC in anyway is haram. Any financial or material support will further the cause of extremism and not Islam. All individuals, foundations, and businesses should cease their support to the MUC immediately.
THEREFORE, TUNOWA will monitor and make public any support given to the MUC, until the leadership return to the path of righteousness, goodness, and true service to the community.
The TUNOWA will use all available peaceful, moral, and legal tools to expose misrepresentations and false claims. We will collaborate with sister organizations and law-abiding citizens to inform and educate our community and the public about Islam.
PEACE to ALL

Extremism is now established at the unity masjid . there are rumors that the ikhwan al-muslimeen movement have estabslished the unity center as a target for their takeover plans. nonone knows whether this is correct but many are worried by what they see. the imam always brings people from egypt and others with ikwan profile to led prayers and speak at the masjid.t the board is making the mosque uncomfortable forn any one who does not look like the ikhwan. the trustees are controlled by an angry man from hama and a palestinian doctor & business tycoon with no morals. they are doing all the ikhwan bidding with all the hama people. the place is starting to look like an ikhwan nconvention all the time. many families have left and the rest are frustrated. allah be with muslims in America, their mosques are controlled by the fundamentalists and the rest of the society does not tgreat them well. they are outsiders everywhere. ya allah- dliver us from the darkenss into light. ya allah lift the cloud off our commnity and spare us the agony of dealing with these fundamentalists

It is too late to save the masjid
The extremists are in full control
they drove away, intimidated or marginalized all other views
They are "lynching" the few remaining voices of moderation.
another masjid bit the dust
What a tragedy!!!

I have been a member of the Muslim Unity Center for couple of years, it is the most open, welcoming, clean and inviting center I have ever seen. I have moved to this area from another state and I love this center, my wife and my kids love it too.
I questioned some in the community and others in the leadership of the center about these negative postings. came to find out that some dishonest members at the center could never achieve the community trust through fair election, they decided to resort cheap and dishonest means to achieve their objectives and backstab their own community!!!
These kind of individuals and parasites can only thrive through dark means. Luckily they are now exposed and this clan's "his network consists of two or three followers. Very large followings!!!!" leader is being pursued in the court of law for his numerous character assasination and false allegations.

Let's present more facts and analyze them to prove claims of both sides. Who runs MUC, who ran it before? How would you run it to make it a inclusive place? We all donate money, promote it by advertising on the newsletter, and after all it is a 501 (C) (3) entity and everybody has the right to inspect the books, records, and participate in the management. Don't you agree?

I agree with you and ALhamdu Li Allah, God all mighty had revealed the truth at it best, not only facts, but judgments and admissions by the guilty. He all mighty is above us all with his fairness and judgment. God knows what is inside our hearts and that what counts. Don’t let this life fool you this is not the end for his punishment as God mentioned in the Holy Quran the final judgment is on the day of Judgment.

ASA,
As someone whose family has been attending the MUC off and on for many years I can say that it is YOUR article that is extreme. By far, MUC has ALWAYS been THE most welcoming, open and friendly masjid around with a very global congregation - but they still have some work to do. The Imam, I would say is traditional but relatively (F A R more than many other Imams) understanding to the reality of his community.
I am in agreement with you that it is run now completely by immigrants with an immigrant mindset and I certainly wish more Americans and younger people were on the board.Yes, I am not crazy about SOME of the board members personally (they make me uncomfortable and are very pushy personalities).
Yet, your take on MUC is overly harsh and to go so far as to say that supporting the masjid is haram is an EXTREMISM in itself and you clearly have gone over the line in your Islam as being so bold as declaring something haram that is not. Worse you are misleading people, Muslim and non Muslim.Shame on you.
But the truth is universal that Muslims are far more judgemental and harder on other Muslims than anyone else. We are growing into an ummah of extremes - barely following our deen or overly harsh to the point of warping the beauty and relevance of it. Perhaps that is the reason my family stays on the fringes on the community.

Masjid Ad-Dirar and Masjid At-Taqwa
From Tafsir Ibn Kathir
The hypocrites built a Masjid next to the Masjid in Quba', and they finished building it before the Messenger went to Tabuk. They went to the Messenger inviting him to pray in their Masjid so that it would be a proof that the Messenger approved of their Masjid. They told him that they built the Masjid for the weak and ill persons on rainy nights. However, Allah prevented His Messenger from praying in that Masjid. He said to them,
«Ø¥Ùنَّا عَلَى سَÙَر٠وَلَكÙنْ Ø¥Ùذَا رَجَعْنَا Ø¥Ùنْ شَاءَ الله»
(If we come back from our travel, Allah willing.)'' When the Messenger of Allah came back from Tabuk and was approximately one or two days away from Al-Madinah, Jibril came down to him with the news about Masjid Ad-Dirar and the disbelief and division between the believers, who were in Masjid Quba' (which was built on piety from the first day), that Masjid Ad-Dirar was meant to achieve. Therefore, the Messenger of Allah sent some people to Masjid Ad-Dirar to bring it down before he reached Al-Madinah. `Ali bin Abi Talhah reported that Ibn `Abbas said about this Ayah (9:107), "They are some people of the Ansar to whom Abu `Amir said, `Build a Masjid and prepare whatever you can of power and weapons, for I am headed towards Caesar, emperor of Rome, to bring Roman soldiers with whom I will expel Muhammad and his companions.' When they built their Masjid, they went to the Prophet and said to him, "We finished building our Masjid and we would like you pray in it and invoke Allah for us for His blessings.''Allah revealed this verse,
﴿لاَ تَقÙمْ ÙÙيه٠أَبَدًا﴾
(Never stand you therein), until,
﴿الْظَّـلÙÙ…Ùينَ﴾
(...wrongdoers) '' Allah said next,
ï´¿ÙˆÙŽÙ„ÙŽÙŠÙŽØْلÙÙَنَّ﴾
(they will indeed swear), those who built it,
ï´¿Ø¥Ùنْ أَرَدْنَا Ø¥Ùلاَّ الْØÙسْنَى﴾
(that their intention is nothing but good.) by building this Masjid we sought the good and the comfort of the people. Allah replied,
﴿وَاللَّه٠يَشْهَد٠إÙنَّهÙمْ لَكَـذÙبÙونَ﴾
(Allah bears witness that they are certainly liars) for they only built it to harm Masjid Quba', and out of disbelief in Allah, and to divide the believers. They made it an outpost for those who warred against Allah and His Messenger , such as Abu `Amir the Fasiq who used to be called Ar-Rahib, may Allah curse him! Allah said,
﴿لاَ تَقÙمْ ÙÙيه٠أَبَدًا﴾
(Never stand you therein), prohibiting His Prophet and his Ummah from ever standing in it in prayer.

I am saddened to see negative comments about the Unity Center on this blog and I believe there is no truth to them.
As the past Founding Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Unity Center, I feel obligated to express my thoughts:
We worked hard to initiate the Unity Center project, by the Grace of God, and I am not happy to see it branded as no longer an Islamic center and called a Masjid al-Dhirar. Whatever the writer of the blog meant by that designation it cannot be applied to the Muslim Unity Center.
As practicing Muslims, we learn forgiveness, love and reconciliation as important aspects of Islam -- values mandated by the Holy Qur'an and the traditions of Prophet Muhammad -- May God's peace and blessings be upon him. Therefore, if there are any personal issues leading to this blog, they should be resolved in an appropriate manner. Both Shia and Sunni Muslims contributed to the undertaking of the Unity Center project, making it a unique Masjid in Michigan. The name ‘Unity Center’ was chosen by its founders to clearly give this message of inclusion -- all people of ethnic and national origin were encourage to participate in our congregation and the Center activities equally.
I am no longer a trustee or active participant in the Masjid affairs, beyond attending prayer services. However, negative allegations posted on the blog are not true in my opinion. Actually, the Masjid operations, as I see, are much improved as the Center has matured since its initial launch in 1993.
I pray my submission on this blog will help towards bringing community members together to work out their differences. We started this noble endeavor in 1993, with the sincere support of a few Muslim families, who provided years of dedicated service to the Center and the Muslim community and envisioned a united community.
The vision of this Mosque, as I see, has remained in place since its inception:
While the Mosque in countries with Muslim majorities primarily serves spiritual and religious function; the Mosque in North America plays a multifaceted role, serving religious, spiritual and social role.
Our Unity Center Mosque was built to promote the following:
1) Religious functions: The Mosque is the center of the religious and life cycle functions of the community.
2) Melting pot: This is where diverse cultures forge a new American Islamic identity
3) New solutions: There is a need to derive authentic Islamic solutions to new conditions in a new culture.
4) Safe Harbor: There is a great need for a spiritual home for ALL Muslims sailing modern life lacking the family-social network.
5) Building the next generations: Weekend, part-time religious school, summer programs and recreation activities for the youth.
6) A beacon of light: Helping others understand the peaceful faith of Islam.
7) Post 9-11 existence of the Muslim community: Requiring a united, inclusive, participatory, visionary and involved leadership that understands the role inter-faith work plays in building an inclusive community and standing up to violent extremism.
