Masjid Ad-Dirar and Masjid At-Taqwa
From Tafsir Ibn Kathir
The hypocrites built a Masjid next to the Masjid in Quba', and they finished building it before the Messenger went to Tabuk. They went to the Messenger inviting him to pray in their Masjid so that it would be a proof that the Messenger approved of their Masjid. They told him that they built the Masjid for the weak and ill persons on rainy nights. However, Allah prevented His Messenger from praying in that Masjid. He said to them,
«Ø¥Ùنَّا عَلَى سَÙَر٠وَلَكÙنْ Ø¥Ùذَا رَجَعْنَا Ø¥Ùنْ شَاءَ الله»
(If we come back from our travel, Allah willing.)'' When the Messenger of Allah came back from Tabuk and was approximately one or two days away from Al-Madinah, Jibril came down to him with the news about Masjid Ad-Dirar and the disbelief and division between the believers, who were in Masjid Quba' (which was built on piety from the first day), that Masjid Ad-Dirar was meant to achieve. Therefore, the Messenger of Allah sent some people to Masjid Ad-Dirar to bring it down before he reached Al-Madinah. `Ali bin Abi Talhah reported that Ibn `Abbas said about this Ayah (9:107), "They are some people of the Ansar to whom Abu `Amir said, `Build a Masjid and prepare whatever you can of power and weapons, for I am headed towards Caesar, emperor of Rome, to bring Roman soldiers with whom I will expel Muhammad and his companions.' When they built their Masjid, they went to the Prophet and said to him, "We finished building our Masjid and we would like you pray in it and invoke Allah for us for His blessings.''Allah revealed this verse,
﴿لاَ تَقÙمْ ÙÙيه٠أَبَدًا﴾
(Never stand you therein), until,
﴿الْظَّـلÙÙ…Ùينَ﴾
(...wrongdoers) '' Allah said next,
ï´¿ÙˆÙŽÙ„ÙŽÙŠÙŽØْلÙÙَنَّ﴾
(they will indeed swear), those who built it,
ï´¿Ø¥Ùنْ أَرَدْنَا Ø¥Ùلاَّ الْØÙسْنَى﴾
(that their intention is nothing but good.) by building this Masjid we sought the good and the comfort of the people. Allah replied,
﴿وَاللَّه٠يَشْهَد٠إÙنَّهÙمْ لَكَـذÙبÙونَ﴾
(Allah bears witness that they are certainly liars) for they only built it to harm Masjid Quba', and out of disbelief in Allah, and to divide the believers. They made it an outpost for those who warred against Allah and His Messenger , such as Abu `Amir the Fasiq who used to be called Ar-Rahib, may Allah curse him! Allah said,
﴿لاَ تَقÙمْ ÙÙيه٠أَبَدًا﴾
(Never stand you therein), prohibiting His Prophet and his Ummah from ever standing in it in prayer.

A mosque must be built on taqwa, otherwise it is just a social club many centerss in america are ethnic/economic clubs that have nothing to do with islam. The enemeies of islam love such centers, to keep people away from the true deen and to show the world that islam is for those foreigners with their weired customs and backward culture.
A couple of verses that mention taqwa are presented below:“It is not taqwa that you turn your faces toward East or West, but it is taqwa to believe in Allah and the Last Day, and the Angels, and the Book and the Messengers, to spend of your substance out of love for Him, for your kin, for orphans, for the needy, for the wayfarer, for those who ask, and for the ransom of slaves; to be steadfast in prayer and practice regular charity; to fulfill the contracts you have made; to be firm and patient, in pain and adversity. Those are the truthful and those are the muttaqun.” [Qur’an 2:177]
“O mankind! We have created you from a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know one another. Verily, the most honourable of you with Allah is that (believer) who has Taqwa. Verily, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Aware.” [Qur’an 49:13]
The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said, “The most common thing which leads people to Paradise is taqwa of Allah and good conduct, and the most common thing which leads people to the Hell Fire is the mouth and the private parts.” [Tirmidhi]
Sayyiduna Ali (R.A) defined Taqwa as being the ‘fear of Jaleel (Allah), acting upon the tanzeel (Quran), being content with qaleel (little), and preparing for the day of raheel (journeying from this world).
Hadrat Umar ibn Khattab (R.A) once asked Hadrat Ibn Ka’ab (R.A) the definition of taqwa. In reply Hadrat Ibn Ka’ab asked, “Have you ever had to traverse a thorny path?” Hadrat Umar replied in the affirmative and Hadrat Ka’ab continued, “How do you do so?”
Hadrat Umar said that he would carefully walk through after first having collected all loose and flowing clothing in his hands so nothing gets caught in the thorns hence injuring him. Hadrat Ka’ab said, “This is the definition of taqwa, to protect oneself from sin through life’s dangerous journey so that one can successfully complete the journey unscathed by sin.”
Hadrat Hasan Basri said, “Taqwa is the basis of Deen. Desire and greed destroy this basis.”
Hadrat Maulana Hafiz Ghulam Habib (r.a.) used to define taqwa as the shunning of everything and anything that causes a deficiency in one’s relationship with Allah.
This is the standard for taqwa. Leaders of mosques must live up to this standard. No taqwa, no islam.

ASA,
As someone whose family has been attending the MUC off and on for many years I can say that it is YOUR article that is extreme. By far, MUC has ALWAYS been THE most welcoming, open and friendly masjid around with a very global congregation - but they still have some work to do. The Imam, I would say is traditional but relatively (F A R more than many other Imams) understanding to the reality of his community.
I am in agreement with you that it is run now completely by immigrants with an immigrant mindset and I certainly wish more Americans and younger people were on the board.Yes, I am not crazy about SOME of the board members personally (they make me uncomfortable and are very pushy personalities).
Yet, your take on MUC is overly harsh and to go so far as to say that supporting the masjid is haram is an EXTREMISM in itself and you clearly have gone over the line in your Islam as being so bold as declaring something haram that is not. Worse you are misleading people, Muslim and non Muslim.Shame on you.
But the truth is universal that Muslims are far more judgemental and harder on other Muslims than anyone else. We are growing into an ummah of extremes - barely following our deen or overly harsh to the point of warping the beauty and relevance of it. Perhaps that is the reason my family stays on the fringes on the community.
