Just like Angels, I think each of us have our own individual Peter Pan. They visit us in our dreams, they whisper in your ear when you least expect it. Sometimes so quietly, your not quit sure if you really even heard anything. Maybe your driving to work, writing an essay, when you hear a hushed breath sweep past your ear. You look up out of reflex, as if someone had called your name, but just go back to whatever you are doing once finding out it must have been the wind. It however is not the wind, its not in your mind. Peter Pan is there to reassure us that our lives are not all work. Its okay to laugh at something silly, its okay to take a deep breath and smile. Its okay to have a little fun in this hectic world we live in. If we didn’t have fun, then there really would be no point in us being here. Some of us hear Peter Pan more than others. Some of us try not to. You can try as hard as you can, but you know that one day you will break down. You will eventually decide, just one time, to choose play over work. You will drink too much. You will laugh at things that are to be taken seriously. You will feel that nine year old crush when you kiss your husband or wife. You will feel your heart drop when you find out that something you really wanted is actually going to happen. You will allow yourself to get excited, to care a little bit less, to see the world around you with open eyes, with an open heart. You will love. You will see the Butterfly, and not the office building its flying past. You will see the world in vivid color. You might even wake up a little bit for the first time in years, and allow yourself to care a little bit less about the things that hold you in, and live a little bit more. We can’t allow ourselves to miss everything around us. You could be 18, or 58, but you are still living in your prime. As long as we breath, we should be breathing with everything we have. We should look around us and see only the good. We should soak it all in and radiate with laughter. It doesn’t matter what kind of situation you are in, you are still alive and a gift to this earth. Don’t waste your time here...it only comes once. And that is exactly what Peter Pan is here to remind us about.  Next time you feel that hidden temptation deep down inside of you stir, let it out.

I wish I could.
