I've been an employee of the same, family owned "Christian" company for almost 5 years.  It's a small company and for the most part, the employees are a close-knit bunch.

While the company President (the son) enjoys an average work week of approximately 20 hours (I understand, it's HIS company, but we need some sort of guidance and leadership at times) us "worker bees" average 50 hours per week.  Even though we are all salaried employees, we must turn in weekly timesheets.  We are never paid overtime, however if we work under 40 hours in a week, a minimum of 2 hours (even if we've worked 39.50 hours) is deducted from our timebank.  We all know this is illegal but with the current state of the economy, we hold our tongues.  None of us have had a raise in 3 years.  But I know I'm lucky to have a job.

Last week I had to put my 13 year old dog down and as a single person, he was like a child to me.  He nursed me through a bout of cancer and saved me from an attempted home invasion.  It was and still is no secret how much I love this dog.  Since my prick of a boss was vacationing out of the country all last week, he didn't know I had to put my dog down.  As I was relaying the story to him yesterday, I told him how the entire company had banded together to make sure I was okay and to let me know that I was in their thoughts and prayers.  I made the statement that since it was just under a week ago, I still wasn't quite "back to normal" and he rudely interjected with the unbelievably inexcusable, ugly and hateful statement, "You mean you're not back to your usual 80%?"

Just had to post this because I still can't believe that this asshole kicked me when I was at my lowest point in such a remarkably inappropriate way.
